Dr Simon Woods brings extensive experience as a senior healthcare executive, with a distinguished background spanning clinical practice, medical leadership, and large-scale health service transformation.
Simon originally trained and practised as a surgeon, working in both public and private healthcare settings including academic institutions, large tertiary hospitals, private hospitals, and regional centres. His broad clinical and operational experience provides him with deep insight into the complexities of contemporary healthcare delivery.
Throughout his career, Simon has held a number of senior leadership roles, including Medical Director, Executive Director of Medical Services, and Chief Medical Officer. He has led major organisational change initiatives, with significant expertise in clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement, clinical research, and medical workforce leadership.
He has also coordinated medical education programs, led the development of clinical services plans and facilities masterplans, and driven the implementation of major clinical IT systems and new hospital facilities.
A strong advocate for safety and quality in healthcare, Simon has extensive expertise in clinical governance frameworks, data analysis, adverse event review methodologies, and board-level reporting. His leadership has continued across interim executive medical leadership and consulting roles, focusing on clinical governance, service reviews, business development, and organisational change management in complex healthcare environments.
