IVF Services to Transition to Hobart Day Surgery, Ensuring Continuity of Care For Tasmanians
IVF services delivered by Fertility Tasmania will transition to Hobart Day Surgery from 13 April 2026, ensuring the continued provision of reproductive and fertility care for Tasmanian patients in a local, well‑supported clinical environment. The transition is designed to maintain access to essential fertility services while minimising disruption for individuals and families currently undergoing or planning treatment.
The service transition reflects a shared commitment by Fertility Tasmania and Nexus Hobart Day Surgery to support continuity of care and long‑term access to fertility services within Tasmania. By delivering IVF procedures at Hobart Day Surgery, patients will continue to receive evidence‑based, patient‑centred care closer to home, without the need for interstate travel.
Chief Executive Officer of Nexus Hospitals, Greg Hall, said the transition supports the ongoing delivery of reproductive health services for the Tasmanian community.
“Access to reproductive healthcare is an important part of community wellbeing,” Mr Hall said. “The transition of IVF services to Hobart Day Surgery ensures these services continue to be delivered locally, in a safe and well‑supported clinical environment.”
Lead fertility specialist Dr Irena Nikakis said maintaining local access to IVF services is particularly important for Tasmanian patients.
“Fertility care is a fundamental component of comprehensive reproductive health,” Dr Nikakis said. “In a state where access to services can be limited, ensuring care remains available locally is essential. This transition allows patients to continue receiving evidence‑based, patient‑centred care close to home, without the need for interstate travel.”
Dr Nikakis is supported by fertility specialists Dr Stephen Bradford and Dr Sajid Patel, alongside a multidisciplinary team of nurses, embryologists and allied health professionals experienced in the delivery of reproductive and fertility care.
Hobart Day Surgery is working closely with Fertility Tasmania and relevant stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition for patients currently undergoing or planning treatment.
