Pacific Private Hospital Launches ERAS Orthopaedic Service, Transforming Joint Surgery on the Gold Coast
Pacific Private Hospital, part of the Nexus Group, has officially launched its Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Arthroplasty Program, a pioneering initiative that is reshaping the future of joint replacement care in Queensland. Coinciding with the hospital’s recent infrastructure expansion, including two new operating theatres and eight additional inpatient beds, the ERAS program reflects a bold commitment to innovation, efficiency, and patient-centred outcomes.

Designed for patients undergoing hip and knee replacements, the ERAS model offers a short-stay surgical pathway designed to deliver enhanced recovery, reduced complications, and improved satisfaction. The program is supported by a multidisciplinary team and powered by the MyMobility® app, a personalised digital companion that guides patients through every stage of their surgical journey. The app connects patients directly with their care team and provides:
- Personalised recovery plans tailored to each procedure
- Educational content, reminders, and checklists to prepare for surgery
- Activity tracking, pain monitoring, and mobility data
- Secure messaging and remote monitoring by the surgeon and care team, including a physiotherapist.
- Ongoing expectations, feedback and encouragement to keep patients engaged during recovery
- Data loop ecosystem allowing continuous review of outcomes, with ongoing learnings and improvement of patient care.
“This launch marks a significant step forward in how we deliver joint care,” said Jane McLennan, General Manager of Pacific Private Hospital. “We’re proud to offer an orthopaedic care model that combines science, support, and innovation, giving patients and referrers a compelling reason to choose Pacific Private.”
Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr David Liu helped establish the ERAS model at Pacific Private.
“The ERAS pathway is rapidly becoming the preferred model for joint replacement, as evidenced by the rapid growth of ambulatory surgery centres in the United States and similar programs in the UK and Europe. It empowers patients to take an active role in their recovery, with early mobilisation, tailored pain management, and coordinated care supported by patient engagement apps such as MyMobility®. Benefits include shorter hospital stays – most patients are discharged within 24 hours, lower risk of complications, and a faster return to independence. Contrary to initial beliefs, peer reviewed studies have demonstrated ERAS pathways to improve patient satisfaction and outcomes, reduce complications and provide an efficient cost-effective way of delivering care to the increasing number of patients with debilitating arthritis of the hip or knee”, stated Dr David Liu.
Referring GPs, physiotherapists, specialists and patients are encouraged to contact Pacific Private Hospital for details on participating orthopaedic surgeons and referral pathways.
